Mental health is the ability to recognize, cope with, and resolve the internal and external demands of life, and the capacity to manage stress, develop resilience, and build meaningful relationships. These skills are essential to the promotion of wellness and the prevention of mental illness. Wellness is not just the absence of mental illness but an active process of achieving optimal mental health and well-being. Research suggests that wellness is composed of seven dimensions: emotional, spiritual, physical, environmental, financial, occupational, and social. Each dimension contributes to an individual’s overall health and quality of life.
